Consultant in Infection with an interest in Critical Care & Infection Control
We are recruiting two consultants, dually accredited with CCT (or within 6 months of CCT date) in both Infectious Diseases and Microbiology, for these full-time (10 PA) substantive posts. They will join our expanding team of Infection Sciences consultants at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
King’s College Hospital is a teaching hospital delivering services across three sites (Denmark Hill, Princess Royal University Hospital and Orpington Hospital) and one of the largest foundation Trusts in the country. It serves the local populations of Southwark, Lambeth, Bromley and Bexley. In addition to providing services to our local community, we have a large number of regional services covering the Southeast including trauma and orthoplastics, cardiac, cardiothoracic surgery, hyper-acute stroke, diabetology, cystic fibrosis and a number of national and internationally recognised specialist services: haemato-oncology (including stem cell transplantation and CAR-T), neurosciences (including neurosurgery), paediatric and adult liver transplantation, and foetal medicine.
Our ambition is to be an outstanding local hospital for our community and a centre of specialist clinical and research excellence. Additionally, we work with King’s College London to offer training, education and clinical placements for medical, nursing and dental students. We are also proud to be a founding member of King’s Health Partners, a collaboration to deliver bench to bedside solutions to improve patient health and wellbeing.
As well sharing general Infection management responsibilities and laboratory-based duties with six Consultant Microbiologist colleagues at the Denmark Hill site, each post-holder will spend 2 PAs working with the three consultant microbiologists based in the PRUH laboratory. It is envisaged this will be two days a week on a rotating 1 in 2 basis (2 PAs per post). The appointees will expand our ID consults service (including outpatient antimicrobial therapy) at both sites and ideally develop further our services for infections of the respiratory tract (including paediatric and adult cystic fibrosis) as well as general, colorectal and urological surgery.
Potential applicants are welcome to visit the department and discuss this post.
