Consultant in Medical Microbiology & Infection
Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week (10 PAs)
Applications are invited from existing consultants or specialist registrars to join the expanding team of Infection Sciences consultants at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, based at Denmark Hill.
King’s College Hospital is a teaching hospital delivering services across three sites (Denmark Hill, Princess Royal University Hospital and Orpington Hospital) and one of the largest foundation Trusts in the country. It serves the local populations of Southwark, Lambeth, Bromley and Bexley. In addition to providing services to our local community, we have a large number of regional services covering the Southeast including trauma and orthoplastics, cardiac, cardiothoracic surgery, hyper-acute stroke, diabetology, cystic fibrosis and a number of national and internationally recognised specialist services: haemato-oncology (including stem cell transplantation and CAR-T), neurosciences (including neurosurgery), paediatric and adult liver transplantation, and foetal medicine.
Our ambition is to be an outstanding local hospital for our community and a centre of specialist clinical and research excellence. Additionally, we work with King’s College London to offer training, education and clinical placements for medical, nursing and dental students. We are also proud to be a founding member of King’s Health Partners, a collaboration to deliver bench to bedside solutions to improve patient health and wellbeing.
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated consultant, dually accredited with CCT (or within 6 months of CCT date) in both Infectious Diseases and Microbiology, for this full-time substantive post (1 in 8 band B on-call). As well sharing general Infection management responsibilities with eight Consultant Microbiologist colleagues, the post-holder is expected to develop an interest in Critical Care infections and act as Deputy to the Trust’s Infection Control Doctor. The post is based on the Denmark Hill site but the appointee may be asked to provide support for the Princess Royal University Hospital laboratory and site as required.
Potential applicants are welcome to visit the department and discuss this post.
