Locum Consultant in Anaesthesia

We seek to appoint a 12 month Locum Consultant Anaesthetist to join the Dept of Anaesthesia which currently has 28 Consultants, 3 Associate Specialists, 2 Staff Grade Doctors, 3 Specialty Doctors and 12 Trainee Anaesthetists. The post will involve theatre and maternity sessions, and the post holder will have the opportunity to develop sub-specialty interests to complement the existing expertise and interests of the department.
The hospital provides a comprehensive service for Orthopaedics & Trauma, General Surgery (including Upper GI Surgery and Colorectal surgery) and Breast Surgery, and also hosts several area-wide services such as all Paediatrics (Medical and Surgical), all Obstetrics & Gynaecology, ENT, Maxillofacial Surgery and one national service – the Cochlear Implant Service.
University Hospital Crosshouse currently has 6 Level 3 beds and 16 Level 2 beds located separately. The local Acute Service Review has plans to develop a 24 bedded Combined Critical Care Facility, with co-location of ICU, surgical HDU and medical HDU.
New Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004 T&Cs apply, offered on a 10 PA basis, although opportunities may exist for EPAs. This post will involve participation in the Emergency Theatre / Maternity on call rota, which is a 1:14 rota plus prospective cover. This is a senior on-call, non-resident commitment (must be available on site within 30 minutes). In addition, the post involves participation on a 1:25 rota (plus prospective cover) for inter-
hospital transfer of ICU patients, with a 2 hour response requirement.
Applicants will be appropriately experienced, with Full GMC Registration and current Licence to Practice, and be on the GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of CCT/CESR at the time of interview.
