University Hospital Crosshouse

We seek a 12 month locum Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Intensive Care Medicine, to join 9 other ICU consultants and be part of the wider Dept of Anaesthesia at University Hospital Crosshouse. The anaesthetic department currently has 28 Consultants, 3 Assoc Specialists, 2 Staff Grade Doctors, 3 Specialty Doctors and 12 Trainees. The post holder will have the opportunity to develop their interest in Intensive Care medicine and other sub-specialty interests in Anaesthesia to complement the existing interests of the department.

University Hospital Crosshouse currently has 6 Level 3 beds and 16 Level 2 beds located separately. The local Acute Service Review has plans to develop a 24 bedded Combined Critical Care Facility, with co-location of ICU, surgical HDU and medical HDU.

The hospital provides a comprehensive service for Orthopaedics and Trauma, General Surgery (including Upper GI and Colorectal) and Breast Surgery, and also hosts several area-wide services such as Paediatrics (Medical and Surgical), Obstetrics & Gynaecology, ENT, Maxillofacial Surgery, and the national Cochlear Implant Service.

New Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004 T&Cs apply, offered on a 10 PA basis, although opportunities may exist for EPAs. The post will involve participation in the Intensive Care on-call rota which is a 1:10 rota and a critical care patient transfer rota 1:25 (plus prospective cover). Following a recent change to working patterns, a single ICU Consultant now provides daytime cover for the ICU for a full week at a time.

Applicants will be appropriately experienced, with Full GMC Registration and current Licence to Practice, and be on the GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of CCT/CESR at the time of interview. Dual accreditation in anaesthesia and ICM preferred. Applicants with CCT in anaesthesia and who can demonstrate relevant experience and training in intensive care medicine will be eligible to apply.
