Consultant in General and Ambulatory Paediatrics
Applications are invited for a dynamic and enthusiastic consultant paediatrician to join the Acute General Paediatric service at St George’s Hospital.
St Georges Hospital is a major teaching hospital in SW London. The Children’s service offers a wide range of specialist tertiary services as well as a varied general paediatric service. The Trust is also a Major Trauma Centre. This post is based in the St George’s Hospital campus.
The postholder will work with six other colleagues to provide a comprehensive paediatric ambulatory service, building on the successes of a new unit opened in 2018. This will include a 1:6 week on either inpatient wards or the ambulatory unit, providing daily ward rounds, safety huddles, leadership for emergency admissions and referrals and communication with primary care.
Other weeks are varied and include outpatient work - general clinics, admission avoidance clinics and integrated clinics in primary care - liaison work with key stakeholders, academic and management activities. There is scope to develop a special interest complementing the needs of the department.
The successful applicant will participate in the general paediatric out of hours service. The rota is expected to be 1:10, with the consultant resident in the hospital until 10 pm. Time off in lieu is allocated for on-call work, allowing good flexibility and work life balance.
St George’s paediatric department is a highly rated teaching and training centre and there will be plenty of opportunity to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities.
