We are recruiting two Trust Fellow Doctors in Critical Care Medicine to work on our ICU ward at Yeovil District Hospital, in the South West of England. These are new posts and have been created to provide enhanced cover on our Critical Care Ward. These posts are available from Wednesday 7th August 2019 until Tuesday 4th August 2020, in line with national rotation dates set by NHS Employers.
Benefits of this role:
- An Educational Supervisor and an Appraiser.
- Working pattern between 8am and 8pm.
- No night shifts.
- You will gain experience in a wide range of ICU practical skills, and patient management.
- Ring fenced protected time on the rota for Training and Career Development. This can be in Anaesthetics with supervised theatre lists to gain or retain your Anaesthetics skills or experience in another Medical or Surgical specialty or Medical Education within our hospital.
These 2 posts will join with 2 existing Clinical Teaching Fellow posts to make a rota of 4 Trust/Clinical Fellows providing cover to the Critical Care ward. The rota is staffed in conjunction with other trainee and middle grade Doctors.
This role is an ideal opportunity for boosting your CV or as a stepping stone onto a training programme. These posts would also be suitable for Doctors who have completed their core training, and are waiting to successfully gain a place on a higher training scheme.
Those interested in a career in Anaesthetics, Intensive Care, Acute Medicine, ACCS, or Emergency Medicine, may find these posts of interest. Doctors who wish to apply for training schemes in the above specialties in the future, may find experience of working in ICU in the South-West region to be relevant and useful to their future careers.
The posts include a proportion of time ring-fenced for career development or clinical training days. This is approximately 25% of the basic rota pattern. For anaesthetists, this can be time spent in theatre, in training or solo lists as desired, working at a level appropriate to their experience, in order to retain or gain anaesthetic skills. For non anaesthetists, this time can be spent in any part of the Hospital where suitable training opportunities can be identified and agreed, in line with the Doctor’s career aspirations.
The Trust Fellow posts will be part of the department of Anaesthetics. The post holder will be supported by more senior resident and non-resident Anaesthetists when on duty.
Our Critical Care Unit consists of 10 beds, which are used flexibly as a combination of 4 intensive care (ICU) beds and 6 high dependency (HDU) beds. The Critical Care Trust Fellows will report to the Consultant Anaesthetist / Intensivist who is on duty for the Critical Care Unit. There are two Specialty Doctor (middle grade) Anaesthetists resident in the Hospital 24 hours per day (working in theatres and obstetric theatres), who will support the Trust Fellows with emergency procedures as needed.
Candidates must have GMC registration with a licence to practice at time of making their application.
For candidates who reside abroad you must have completed the necessary IELTS before applying to us. You must be able to satisfy the language test requirements of the UKVI remit.
Previous applicants need not apply.
The interview date for this post is the 7th May 2019.
