This fellowship is an Advanced Surgical Training Fellowship. It is suitable for a post-Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) surgeon with FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedics) specialist registrars or equivalent for overseas applicants, wishing to gain further experience in hip & knee primary and revision arthroplasty Surgery, with a view to seeking a consultant post with this specialist interest. For applicants in training, applications must be accompanied by the written approval of the candidate’s Postgraduate Dean and Director of Training.

Candidates will be expected to retain their own training number and will need to apply for unpaid leave for out of programme training from their current deanery. Applications are also invited from individuals who have attained their CCT in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery and have finished their training programme.

Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS FT is a large NHS Acute Teaching Hospital covering a local population of 400,000 people. The department is a busy Orthopaedic Centre treating all aspects of primary & revision hip/knee arthroplasty surgery performing high volume surgery. It is also the second biggest hip fracture unit in the north-west of England. This position is for a 12 month period starting August 2019 and provides a comprehensive elective and trauma service. The position would suit a surgeon who is looking to gain further specialist experience in hip and knee arthroplasty surgery prior to Consultant appointment. The unit will encourage independent operating and outpatient clinics with exposure to complex surgery where appropriate.

The applicant would ideally be expected to have had significant previous experience in hip & knee arthroplasty surgery. Full GMC registration and licence to practice in the UK is required. The post holder would also be expected to participate in the on-call rota as required.
