We want to appoint exceptional individuals with energy and passion to deliver high quality clinical services in substantive consultant posts in acute internal medicine, diabetes and endocrinology, geriatric medicine and critical care (level 2). The posts based at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley are for ambitious candidates who share our values of care, respect and responsibility and who are committed to our ambition of confirming our position as leaders.

The successful candidate will start in post as soon as possible and will be either a full-time acute physician with or without other specialty interest or be based in their own speciality with acute internal medicine sessions.

This is a 10 PA post with additional sessions available depending on individual consultants’ needs. The appointees will be joining ten substantive consultants and four locum consultants to provide senior cover to the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and their parent specialty.

The AMU has 8 assessment spaces and 70 short stay beds. There is a vibrant Ambulatory Emergency Care unit which also serves patients attending our five weekly immediate access outpatient clinics and a consultant-led Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy Service. The AMU sees approximately 24,000 new patients per year. The new appointees will cover all areas and services of the AMU with their consultant colleagues on a rotational basis. The Trust is striving to have a 12 hour target time for discharge or transfer to an inpatient bed from the assessment area of the AMU.

The Trust has a six bedded Medical High Dependency Unit which caters for level 2 patients, with daily input from various specialties. Our ambition is to have a consultant-delivered seven service on the unit. We have recently introduced a Frailty Assessment Unit; the team includes a frailty nurse practitioner, therapists and a discharge coordinator. Our geriatric service is expanding, in addition to the existing services; we aim to deliver per-operative care and community outreach.

The Diabetes and Endocrinology Department runs specialist endocrine services from purpose-built outpatient centre. It has won national awards for its innovation in inpatient ThinkGlucose and antenatal diabetes services. We are looking for dynamic consultant colleagues to support service expansion.

Applicants must be fully registered with GMC and be on the GMC specialist register or be within six months of obtaining specialist registration in acute internal medicine at the date of interview. The new consultant contract will be offered based on 10 programmed activities per week. The current on-call commitment is one in fifteen shared with other physicians. Due to changes to the Tier 2 (general) immigration route effective on 1st April 2017, we can now only offer sponsorship to experienced workers, aged 25 and over, if the commencing salary being offered is £30,000+. For new entrants, which is a person under the age of 25, a student switching from Tier 4 to Tier 2 of the immigration system or a new graduate recruit, the minimum salary threshold remains at £20,800. Nurses, paramedics and medical radiographers will be exempt from the salary threshold increases until July 2019.
