Clinical Advisers and Medical Assessors (Psychiatrists)
Do you want to apply your skills as a psychiatrist to help assure patients and their families that they can receive safe care from pharmacy?
We have opportunities for psychiatrists to become Clinical Advisers or Medical Assessors in our important work to consider health matters for pharmacy professionals.
We are the regulator for pharmacy professionals and registered pharmacies in Great Britain. As part of our work to uphold standards, we have three independent statutory committees, the investigating, fitness to practise and appeals committees, which decide on concerns about pharmacy professionals. Clinical Advisers and Medical Assessors provide advice to these committees on health matters.
Medical Assessors undertake an assessment of a pharmacy professional at our request and then draft an impartial medical report. The purpose of the report is to provide evidence about any health condition, if it is being managed by the pharmacy professional and to provide an expert opinion on any risks that the condition may present to the pharmacy professional, patients and the public. In cases where a fitness to practise hearing is scheduled, the Medical Assessor is expected to give evidence.
Clinical advisers read papers and medical assessment reports and attend the meetings or hearings to advise our statutory committees when they consider cases relating to a pharmacy professional’s physical or mental health. They advise the committee on any issues within their area of medical expertise, answer questions about medical conditions or health-related matters that apply to the case.
We will provide training for successful applicants so that they can succeed in their roles.
We are proud of our diverse and inclusive culture and are committed to holding ourselves to the same standards we expect of others. We welcome applications from all sections of the community.

We are based in London, which is normally the location of any hearings. We are recruiting Medical Assessors on the basis of their geographical location so that we can ensure we have good coverage across Great Britain.
