The Neonatal service within Cardiff and Vale UHB is undergoing an exciting major development as part of the plans to reconfigure specialist paediatric services in South Wales. A new expanded Neonatal Unit is being established at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) compliant with the latest BAPM standards and providing the highest standards of care in a state of the art environment.
This development follows the completion of Phase 2 of the Children’s Hospital for Wales which includes new children’s outpatients, new medical and surgical in-patient facilities, dedicated paediatric theatres and paediatric radiology and enhanced re-provision of paediatric critical care beds.
As part of the phased development of the new unit, applications are invited for the post of Consultant Neonatologist based at University Hospital of Wales.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at UHW provides specialised tertiary medical and surgical neonatal services (largely intensive or high dependency) for the whole population of South Wales with a small number of referrals from England.
These include a full range of the extremely preterm and extremely low birthweight babies, congenital malformations requiring multi-specialty assessment and/or neonatal surgery and infants with neonatal complications requiring specific medical or surgical management. Excellent working relationships exist with colleagues in a full range of paediatric sub-specialties provided on site at UHW.
The Unit also provides secondary intensive and high and low dependency care.
The appointee will join the existing team of 10 WTE Consultants providing 24/7 cover for ITU, HDU, SCBU and Neonatal Transport services at UHW. Applicants must demonstrate they have the necessary expertise to manage a range of complex neonatal conditions, together with excellent team working and communication skills.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
