SMO Medical Policy and Advice
The Royal Navy Medical Service is seeking a GMC registered doctor with a License to Practice who is capable of acting as a medical policy lead and providing medico-legal assistance to the Naval Service.
Based in Portsmouth within the Medical Division at Navy Command Headquarters this exciting, senior, position affords the post holder the opportunity to interact with a broad range of medical stakeholders across Defence from Headquarters staff to clinicians in deployed Naval Service units.
Drawing on specialists from a range of fields, they will orchestrate the development, maintenance and update of Royal Navy Medical Policy and influence the development of Tri-service Medical Policy. Alongside this they will support the Naval Service with the case-management of Medico-Legal
and Inheritance Tax claims, investigations into Medical Complaints and Clinical Negligence, and provide medical advice to other investigations and inquiries/enquiries.
The Post Holder must possess a full GMC Registration and be accredited as a Consultant or General Practitioner. Experience as a Civilian Medical Practitioner supporting the Armed Forces, or as a servicing military Medical Officer is also essential. Experience of handling Medico-legal matters and
healthcare complaints is desirable, though not essential.
