Senior Clinical Fellow in General Paediatrics/HDU/Senior Management Role
University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust seeks applicants for 1 full-time Clinical Fellow post (at ST4-8 level or equivalent/post CCT holder) based within the Paediatric High Dependency Team and the General Paediatric Team at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children as well as having the invaluable opportunity of spending a dedicated 40% of your time working
alongside our senior management team.
The post holder will be involved in delivering on projects including winter resilience and analysis of patient flow as well as working on the challenge of how we can balance increasing service needs with training requirements. The post is due to start from as soon as possible for a period of 6-12 months. There would then be the opportunity to gain experience in other sub-specialty areas in our hospital.
In order to allow continued expert subspecialty clinical development, the post holder will undertake this role alongside daytime clinical duties (60% WTE) within paediatric medicine, with a contribution to the out of hours rota (1:9 basis), with 3 middle grades working alongside each other out of hours. PICU and the emergency department have their own separate cover.
Within the general paediatric part of the post – the post holder will work with 9 enthusiastic and driven consultant colleagues to ensure that they gain an excellent exposure to secondary level paediatrics in multiple specialties whilst gaining valuable experience from working closely with all paediatric tertiary level sub-specialties.
They will also cover of paediatric HDU service which covers patients from all medical subspecialties and is led by a team of 7 consultants who come from a mixed PICU and general paediatric background. This gives trainees an excellent exposure to secondary level paediatrics in multiple specialties whilst gaining valuable experience from working closely with all sub-specialties.
There is the opportunity to contribute to out-patient general paediatric clinics both within the children’s hospital and around the local region.
More senior applicants and post CCT applicants will be welcomed and will be supported in developing their leadership and management skills by being supervised in running the acute service weeks.
There is a very active educational programme with weekly journal clubs, weekly teaching sessions and monthly simulation sessions. Any successful applicants would have to opportunity to contribute to service development and change management projects running in the department.
This post will also contribute to the medical sub-specialties out of hours rota (1:9 basis), with 3 middle grades working alongside each other out of hours. There is separate cover for the paediatric emergency department and the paediatric intensive care unit.
This post is new deal compliant on commencement. This post is not a recognisd and Deanery approved training post, but the post holder will participate in exactly the same timetable and training opportunities as training post holders.
