A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join a motivated team as a consultant within Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Bronglais Hospital. The successful post holder will contribute to developing ambulatory gynaecology within the department with specific emphasis on out patient hysteroscopy and leading Early Pregnancy Assessment.

The Obstetric unit has recently undergone a major refurbishment with a new Antenatal and Labour Ward Area. The outpatients have also been refurbished and the main hospital theatres are currently being updated. The unit at Bronglais Hospital currently has 550 deliveries per year and accommodates 2000 women referred for gynaecology care. The unit at Bronglais forms part of wider obstetric unit and neonatal unit which is based at Glangwilli Hospital at Carmarthen.

Bronglais General Hospital is a 125 bed acute hospital that currently serves a core population of 125,000 in a geographically large and sparsely populated area. The summertime population approximately doubles due to the influx of holidaymakers and there are also a large number of university students based in Aberystwyth. Furthermore, approximately 70,000 permanent residents live in areas equidistant from Bronglais and other acute care sites, in areas to which enhanced outreach is planned as part of future development of services.

Aberystwyth is a unique place to live where the peace and quiet of rural living is balanced with a vibrant outdoor life style where the University town buzzes with excitement. The town offers a variety of places to enjoy, close by to breath-taking rugged scenery and stunning beaches to historical castle ruins, harbour and pier. There is so much on offer from surfing in the morning, lengthy picturesque walks in the mountains, to watching a dramatic sunset from the Iron Age fort taking in the striking views of nearby Cardigan Bay, as featured in the highly acclaimed BBC1 drama Hinterland.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is one of seven acute Health Boards in Wales serving a population of circa 384,000 with over 9,500 staff. It also provides a range of services for people living in south Gwynedd and Powys. Integrated health boards are a key first step in creating a world class NHS in Wales. Primary care and community services are delivered through: 55 GP practices, 51 Dental practices, 100 Community pharmacies, 52 Optometry premises, 8 Community hospitals, 11 Health centres.

The Health Board is fully committed to:

  • Work-life balance, job-sharing and flexibility
  • Training & Education including a successful Consultant Development & Mentoring scheme

You will enjoy excellent conditions of employment, whilst building your future in one of the best locations in the UK. West Wales is beautiful, sharing rugged coastlines with misty mountains. Outdoor sports are easy to pursue, whilst the amenities of urban centres such as Swansea and Cardiff are not too far away. The pace of life can be fast or slow, with a diverse range of people sharing an envious work-life balance across the region, with excellent quality schools, and reasonable property prices contribute to low living costs and high quality of life.
