Directorate of Respiratory Medicine Located on rolling hills and dissected by river valleys, Sheffield is one of the greenest and most wooded cities in Europe. The Academic Directorate of Respiratory Medicine seeks to appoint a whole-time Consultant Physician in Respiratory Medicine with specialist interest in lung cancer.

This is a new post offering a unique opportunity to deliver first class specialist clinical care and develop the Lung Cancer Service in a large referral centre seeing around 450 new diagnoses of lung cancer each year. The successful applicant will be joining an experienced team of Respiratory physicians with access to a full diagnostic service including on-site PET-CT, EBUS and interventional bronchoscopy (together with laser and bronchial stenting). There is an established pleural service offerring US guided aspiration, thoracoscopy, and IPC insertion with a specifically designed Pleural Procedures room being created and expected to be fully operational by April 2019. There is a weekly lung MDT attended by three specialist thoracic radiologists, thoracic pathology, clinical and medical oncologists, and a palliative care consultant. There is a weekly nodule MDT and designated lung and pleural clinics supported by 4 Specialist Lung nurses. STH hosts one of the largest thoracic surgical units in the country with 4 VATS and one cardiothoracic surgeon. Weston Park Hospital is one of a small number of dedicated cancer hospitals offering state of the art radiotherapy facilities and techniques (including SABR) and up to date chemotherapy regimens. There is active recruitment of patients to a number of lung cancer trials.

The successful candidates must have completed Specialist Training and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or have a CCT date within 6 months of the interview.
