Directorate of Respiratory Medicine Located on rolling hills and dissected by river valleys, Sheffield is one of the greenest and most wooded cities in Europe. More than a third of the city lies inside the beautiful Peak District National Park and it is virtually surrounded by open countryside. Known as “The Outdoor City”, it’s enough to take your breath away.

The Academic Directorate of Respiratory Medicine seeks to appoint a whole-time Consultant Physician in Respiratory Medicine. This is a new post offering a unique opportunity to deliver first class specialist clinical care and in a large tertiary referral centre and University Teaching Hospital.

Currently there are 26 respiratory physicians including a large and active academic department providing comprehensive local and regional services including cystic fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, endobronchial ultrasound and bronchial intervention, asthma, interstitial lung disease and non-invasive ventilation.

This is a newly created post to improve the delivery of specialist Respiratory care. Applicants with a sub-specialty interest aligned to the needs of the department would be encouraged and further discussions welcomed informally or at a formal visit.

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts with a history of high quality care, clinical excellence and innovation in medical research. We strive to promote a culture of continuous quality improvement and encourage our staff to innovate and adopt best practice in order to deliver the highest standard of care to our patients.

The successful candidates must have completed Specialist Training and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or have a CCT date within 6 months of the interview.
