Required to fill this new post, the Renal transplant programme in Leeds is one of the busiest programmes in the UK. Nationally, Leeds is recognised for high volumes, low organ decline rates and leading in the declined kidney scheme. The unit is also actively involved in extended criteria donors, dual grafts and donors from neonatal and paediatric donors. Experience in laparoscopic donor nephrectomy is desirable.
There is a general surgery component to this job, which will involve elective surgery for benign diseases including gall bladders and hernias. Also, the successful candidate is expected to provide cover for the National Organ Retrieval Service. Leeds Teaching Hospitals currently provides cover for Organ retrieval for 26 weeks annually.
