Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor in Paediatric Oncology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. This is a new full time (10PA) post.

The Cambridge Paediatric Haematology/Oncology Centre is one of the larger Primary Treatment Centres in the UK, and currently receives around 150 new referrals per year for childhood malignancy, treated within a purpose-built unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Most related specialties, including laboratory services, radiotherapy, paediatric intensive care and paediatric neurosurgery are available on site.

The successful applicant for this new post will join an established team of 4 full time Paediatric Consultant Oncologists and one University Lecturer together with three Consultant Paediatric Haematologists, one Palliative, one Associate Specialist and one Specialty doctor.  There are training grade doctors comprising 3 Higher Training Specialty Registrars (up to 2 GRID trainees) as well as Foundation and ST1-3 trainees.

There are strong academic links available for cancer research in Cambridge, through the Biomedical Research Centre, MRC and CRUK Cambridge Centre, as well as through academic departments within the university.

Applicants should have general paediatric experience and able to work at middle grade level. Some specific paediatric haematology/oncology training is desirable. Applicants must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013).

The successful candidate must have full registration and license to practice with the General Medicine Council.

Informal enquiries about this post should be addressed to Dr Amos Burke, Specialty Lead for Paediatric Haematology, Oncology and Palliative Care, 01223 256298 or email amos.burke@adenbrookes.nhs.uk
