Consultant in Rheumatology
with a special interest in Connective Tissue Disease

Replacement post (retirement)

This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving and forward thinking Rheumatology department at Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals. We are recruiting to a retirement, replacement, 10PA post that has been redesigned with new activity to support and develop the growing connective tissue disease service.

The successful applicant will provide outpatient Rheumatology clinics at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and Hove Polyclinic in the Community with no out of hours on call commitment. There is a 1:5 daytime (9-5) cover for ward referrals at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Rheumatology sits within the MSK Directorate, Surgical Division. Several specialty clinics are currently provided alongside general rheumatology bringing evidence based medicine and high quality clinical care to patients.

Rheumatology has close connections with the Medical School providing support to the undergraduate curriculum and collaboration with basic science research programmes. Clinical research is undertaken at the Clinical Research Unit, on site, at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

In January 2019, The Care Quality Commission (CQC) published its report following its recent inspection of Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals (BSUH). This showed a significant improvement in our rating to the second-highest possible: ‘Good’. It also rated the trust as ‘Outstanding’ for caring.

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH) is currently going through an exciting period of change. The £500M “3T’s” redevelopment of the Royal Sussex County Hospital is underway and will be completed in 2 years’ time. Rheumatology will have its own bespoke outpatient department on the ground floor of the new build accommodating all members of the team.

Please refer to the person specification in the job description with regards to CCT requirements.
