Bay of Plenty District Health Board

1.0 FTE (80 hours per fortnight) 6 or 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

We are looking for an enthusiastic Consultant in Infectious Diseases and General Medicine to join our vibrant and friendly team for six to twelve months. Working in the beautiful Bay of Plenty, we manage a wide variety of infections including bone and joint infections, fever in the returning traveller, bacteraemia, TB, viral hepatitis and HIV. We run a very active outpatient IV antibiotic service and oversee Infection Prevention and Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship activities.  We take part in the acute medical take as the general Medicine component of the role.

The successful candidate would join the two existing ID physicians to serve the needs of the whole Bay, based in Tauranga Hospital but also offering a consult service to Whakatane Hospital in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, Rotorua Hospital and the community. The diversity of the local population offers a varied and fascinating range of presentations.

Over the coming year we will be working with Lakes DHB to develop a model of service for the population of both DHBs.  For this reason we are looking for someone for the next six months whilst the future direction is clarified.

Our team actively encourage work-life balance and the Bay of Plenty is one of the premier places to live in New Zealand. Tauranga is ideally situated for those who like to work, rest and play – beautiful beaches, stunning scenery, world-class schools and a vibrant city culture. It is also a great base from which to explore New Zealand, Australia and Asia.

Return flights (as required), accommodation and a car would be provided for the duration of the six month contract. If interested in 12 months rather than six please contact us to discuss further.

Applicants must hold or be eligible for vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council.
