Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultant
Applications are invited to join our team of 23 enthusiastic and committed Emergency Medicine consultants in the beautiful South West. We are hoping to find a like-minded colleague who is passionate about delivering high quality contemporary emergency medicine but who also welcomes the quality of life benefits of practicing within easy reach of sea and moor; current expansion is aimed at building a group of consultants with an interest in Paediatrics.
The hub of the Peninsula Trauma Network, Derriford Hospital sees over 110,000 patients a year with a fascinating mixed urban and rural caseload. With the co-located Peninsula Medical School and a successful university academic EM department, we offer all the opportunities for education and research activity that a consultant may seek, and our close ties to the Devon Air Ambulance, British Antarctic Survey Medical Unit and Defence Medical Services makes Derriford a vibrant and unique department that will offer you an unforgettable experience. We benefit from excellent access to tertiary services, and have good relationships with key departments to support our work. We enjoy good links with other EDs in the friendly South West.
The Paediatric area within the Emergency Department sees approximately 20,000 children per year. Recent growth in attendances means there is an emphasis on improving provision for this group of patients in the form of staff and space. This is an opportunity for an innovative, driven individual to shape Paediatric emergency care for children in Plymouth. The post holder would be responsible for delivering clinical sessions in both the adult and Paediatric areas, the weekly Paediatric clinic, and service improvement activity in non-clinical time, alongside the Band 7 nurse lead. They will also be pivotal in design of the Paediatric zone of the new Urgent and Emergency care centre.
Plymouth is a large University City set on the border of Devon and Cornwall, with an active cultural scene. Dartmoor, the South Hams and South East Cornwall are all within living distance. Schooling is excellent, with high quality primary and secondary schools (including grammar). The region offers a full range of leisure opportunities. We value the inclusive and supportive ethos of our team and are seeking new colleagues who will rapidly become friends. We consistently receive excellent feedback from trainees and students and want to continue to build this reputation, along with our reputation for providing high quality clinical care at the leading edge of our speciality. Consultant jobs in our ED are designed to be sustainable. We will be covering the ED 0800-0000 along with work on our CDU and clinics. You will work 7.5 weekends per year, and be on call approx. 1:16 nights.
