Consultant in Dermatology
Applications are invited for this post to join the existing Consultants in providing a Dermatology Service for NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
The Department is based in University Hospital Crosshouse, Kilmarnock and Heathfield Clinic, University Hospital Ayr. There are 4 adult in-patient beds at University Hospital Crosshouse, and access to beds in the Paediatric Unit. The unit has busy Day Treatment Units at Crosshouse and Heathfield providing dressings, TL01, PUVA and Photodynamic therapy. Minor surgery facilities are available in the Dermatology Centre as well as in the clinic areas. There is a monthly cosmetic camouflage clinic. Specialist dermatology nurses operate review clinics for eczema and psoriasis patients and patients on isotretinoin and biologic therapy. There are seven nurse biopsy specialists. There has been substantial recent investment in the Dermatology service to enhance both staffing and services.
The unit is supported by 1 ST3/4, 9 Specialty Grade doctors, 1 GPwER, 1 LAS, 1 FY2, a senior charge nurse, 3 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and a team of experienced Dermatology Nurses. 2 GPwSI practitioners work in close cooperation with the service.
The Dermatology Department enjoys close working relationships with Maxillofacial Surgery and Plastic Surgery. Monthly meetings are held with the pathology department. The Dermatology Department holds a weekly CME programme, including regular clinical review meetings, audit sessions and journal clubs, and the regional centres in Glasgow hold additional regular postgraduate meetings. The Medical Directorate also operates a CME programme. Undergraduates from Glasgow University rotate through the hospital.
The T&Cs are those determined by the new Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004, offered on a 8 PA basis. Applications from individuals who may wish to work less programmed activities or job share basis will be considered. Opportunities may exist for Extra Programmed Activities subject to service requirements. The post will involve participation on the on-call rota (1:6 when all consultant posts filled).
Applicants must have Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice and must be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of CCT or CESR at the date of interview.
