1.0FTE (80 hours per fortnight)

We are looking for a General Physician to join our dynamic, innovative, and friendly team with a focus on the delivery of high quality care to the growing population in the Bay of Plenty.

Bay of Plenty DHB provides health services to 237,000 people in one of the fastest growing regions of New Zealand.  Whakatane Hospital, in the Eastern Bay, is a new modern facility which was commissioned in 2015 and delivers secondary level care including acute and elective medical, surgical and paediatric services. The medical service is comprised of 5 physicians providing general services to a diverse population which includes both urban and remote rural areas. The service functions as a collaborative team with the opportunity to develop subspecialty interests in a setting which provides the opportunity to experience interesting and complex medical presentations. There is a high proportion of young families alongside a growing elderly population along with a high incidence of diabetes and respiratory illnesses, therefore candidates with subspecialty interests in endocrinology, respiratory medicine or geriatrics are welcomed.

We are keen to recruit an individual who is wanting to participate in innovation and in  acute service development. As a DHB, we constantly look to challenge the way we do things and are committed to integrating care across primary and secondary services to improve the outcome for patients.  Good skills in communication and education with respect to patients, whanau (family) and the community as well as staff are essential. At the heart of our services are our CARE values - Compassion, All one team, Responsive and Excellence.

Whakatane and surrounds offer a pleasant environment to live and work in, with stunning beaches, countryside and high sunshine hours (top in NZ for several years), it’s a great place to call home.

Applicants must hold or be eligible for vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council
