We are looking for an ambitious Consultant to join one of the largest providers of integrated health care in the UK.

As a Health Board in Wales we are ambitious for the communities we serve and determined to uphold the fundamental values of the NHS.

We are research-driven, working in close partnership with Swansea University, its College of Medicine and the Institute of Life Sciences.

You will join a team of 11 Consultant delivering Ophthalmology services to the west of the Health Board. You will participate in the general on-call rota and will therefore require general ophthalmology experience.

It is expected that you will also provide subspecialty expertise in Vitreoretinal and ROP screening although applications from suitably trained ophthalmologists with other subspecialty interests will be considered.

ABM University Health Board provides a comprehensive range of community, acute, tertiary, mental health & learning disability services. It serves a local population of over 600,000 people in the areas of Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Bridgend, and the Western Vale of Glamorgan as well as to a broader population on a sub regional and regional basis.

Based near the South Wales Heritage Coastline, the area surrounding the Health Board boasts beautiful scenery, affordable housing, excellent schools and higher education along with good road and rail links to London.

The Health Board employs over 16,000 staff, has a budget of over £770m and was established on 1st April 2008. You will be joining the Health Board at an exciting time as new clinical directorate structures are established, increasingly based on care pathways.

As a University Health Board there are close links with Swansea University and other University College partners in South Wales especially in the areas of research & development and multi-professional teaching.

Upon reaching the maximum of the Consultant pay scale a Commitment Awards is payable every 3 years.
