General Medicine is an acute service based at Auckland City Hospital. We are leading teaching hospital and closely associated with Auckland University. General medicine is the core of the medical inpatient service but is very well supported by the range of tertiary services that you would expect in New Zealand’s largest hospital complex.
Our service comprises of 4 teams of 5 Consultant Physicians or part-timers to make up the 20 0.75 FTE posts. Each ward-based team of 5 Consultants has in addition 3 Registrars, 3 House Officers.
As a Consultant Physician, you will work a rotation with one week on the acute floor followed by two weeks on the ward and a further non-clinical week devoted to additional duties such as teaching, relieving absent SMOs plus continuing medical education prior to the weekend on call.

You should be either registered or be eligible for vocational registration within the scope of General Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
