Applicants are invited for two Consultant Physicians in Care of the Elderly
Medicine at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. You will join a team of five Consultants based at Leighton Hospital in Crewe.
Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s staff benefit from great work, home, education and leisure opportunities in a predominantly rural county.
Nevertheless, it is situated only 35 minutes from Manchester or Liverpool, an
hour away from Birmingham and only half an hour away from the Peak District and the Staffordshire Moorlands. There are some excellent day nurseries and schools in the local area, including 22 Ofsted ‘Outstanding Providers’.
The Trust has a formal clinical partnership with its nearby University Hospital of North Midlands in Stoke on Trent, clinical networks in Liverpool and Manchester, and also benefits from links with local universities in Crewe (Manchester Metropolitan University) and in Chester.
There are three sites including its headquarters at Leighton Hospital near
Crewe, with green fields bordering the site on every side, but benefits from
some of the very latest clinical facilities. These include critical care, neonatal
intensive care, a new suite of state-of-the-art theatres and a dedicated day case Treatment Centre. The Trust has invested in clinical expansion significantly in recent years has a good reputation for research and, is rated as ‘Good’ by the CQC from its 2018 full inspection.
The Care of the Elderly inpatient service currently consists of three wards
providing an acute geriatrics service, a full general rehabilitation service, a
comprehensive stroke and TIA service, Acute geriatrics is provided on one ward area with a specialty bed base of 32 beds. The orthogeriatrics service is provided to orthopaedic patients on Ward 10.
The local stroke service has a collaborative working arrangement between the University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) and Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT). A hyper-acute stroke thrombolysis service is provided on-site 24/7 by the Emergency Department. Leighton Hospital provides a TIA service five days a week and the University Hospitals of North Midlands supports the weekend high risk TIA services. A 28 bedded combined stroke unit provides a comprehensive stroke and TIA service, supported by a fully functional Early Supported Discharge Team in the community.
The general rehabilitation service is provided in a 24 bedded therapy intense
ward on site and at Elmhurst Community Hospital.
Further innovative models of coordinated care spanning the local Health
Economy, aimed at reducing inappropriate hospital attendances and
pro-actively managing health needs in the community are underway with the
local CCGs. The Frailty Team has successfully engaged with Primary Care and this integrated team are working collectively to transform the Frailty Services for the local population across the care settings.
Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a License to
Practice, and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).
The posts are offered on a full-time basis however the Trust would welcome
