Due to retirement and service development we are looking to recruit two Consultant Breast Radiologists.

The breast consultant forms part of a dedicated multi-disciplinary team on site including surgeons, pathologists, oncologists, breast care clinical nurse specialists, research nurse specialists and mammographers. BCUHB provides a breast service across North Wales with breast clinicians at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd having close links with other sites as part of its regional service. Breast imaging services are currently provided on four sites and cross site working can be expected of the successful candidate to maintain service delivery throughout the region.

The close working relationship between BCUHB and Breast Test Wales is welcomed with there being a number of joint appointments. Radiology currently has three breast radiologists participating in a mix of symptomatic and asymptomatic work and will explore similar opportunities for other breast radiologists interested in a similar job plan.

All mammography equipment across North Wales has been recently procured with tomosynthesis being a standard feature for breast imaging. Breast MR is undertaken and contrast enhanced digital mammography (CEDM) is undertaken at Ysbyty Gwynedd with a plan to roll it out to other sites

The service across North Wales diagnoses in the region of 700 new cancer patients each year and is supported by digital pathology system and a regional PACS. Onco-plastic reconstructive surgery and OSNA are provided for the region in YGC and surveillance Breast MRI is provided in Ysbyty Gwynedd.

The post holder will support a range of diagnostic and interventional procedures including:

  • Interpretation of a wide range of breast imaging- mammograms/breast ultrasound and MRI
  • Undertaking FNAs, wide bore needle biopsies, image guided localisations, vacuum assisted biopsy procedures and excisions under US or tomography, tissue marker clip insertions. Magseeds for localisation is being utilised on certain occasions.

In addition, these positions provide key leadership roles in the further development of Radiology services within North Wales.

Any applicant who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full time will be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with consultant colleagues.
