Consultant Anaesthetist with Specialist Interest in Transplant Anaesthesia
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Anaesthetist, based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge for the above post.
The successful candidates will join an expanding, innovative and dynamic department of 80 substantive Consultants and 32 trainees and 15 Senior Clinical Fellows/Clinical Fellows, providing anaesthetic services in this thriving modern teaching hospital, which is the local hospital for people living in the Cambridge area and is a regional/supra-regional referral centre for a number of specialties, including cancer surgery, neurosurgery, transplantation, plastic surgery, vascular and paediatrics. In addition, this post will have involvement in the Major Trauma Centre, which is the hub covering the East Anglia.
The successful candidate will join a team of 11 Liver Transplant Anaesthetists, covering a dedicated transplant theatre 24/7 for liver and multivisceral transplant activity. At present we average between 90-110 liver, and 12-15 multi-visceral, transplants per year, with a year on year increase in these numbers. Our 1 year and 5-year risk adjusted survival rates for adult elective deceased donor first Liver Transplant is 94.9 % and 87.2% respectively. We are actively involved in the research program into organ optimisation using normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) and normothermic regional perfusion (NRP). This post will include sessions in other surgical subspecialties according to mutually agreed job planning. At present on call commitment will be on the transplant rota only.
