Candidates are invited to apply for this whole time (10PA) Consultant post in General Acute Paediatrics. This is a great opportunity to join our team and to work as a consultant in a thriving paediatric department within one of the largest District General Hospitals in the UK.

Whole-time, part-time or job share applicants welcome. Relocation expenses, flexible working arrangements and support with childcare are available.

Our team takes pride in successfully achieving significant service change and improvements, often a step ahead of other services. We have now firmly stabilised our children’s services following an important merger of two large paediatric departments over the past 10 years. We have negotiated and developed new sustainable ways of delivering acute paediatric care with our primary care colleagues and commissioners. We are a forward-thinking team with further exciting service developments in sight. New colleagues are expected to bring fresh ideas and energy to take part in our progress for the children of Gloucestershire.

In Gloucestershire, we have the advantage of a single CCG, a single Local Authority, and Local NHS provider services, matching a single geographical catchment area with a child population approaching 140,000.

We welcome paediatricians who have acquired a firm acute, general paediatric background and who have subspeciality skills or wish to develop these, to complement our existing subspecialty cover.

Our unscheduled acute paediatric care service is developing through further collaborative work between our Paediatric Assessment Unit and  the Emergency Department, with new opportunities afforded by the plans  by 2020 for a major capital spend within the Emergency Department.

The post holder will not be required to cross-cover our level 2 NICU.

Candidates are recommended to contact Dr Ewoud Vorstman (Service Director, 0300 4225707),Dr Wheeler (0300 4228489) or Dr Laura Hole (0300 4228493) and to visit the department to gain further information.

Gloucestershire is an area of outstanding beauty. We feel it has all the urban and rural facilities one would wish for, and also very easy links to Bristol, the South West, the Midlands, London, Oxford and Wales. There are grammar schools rated outstanding and a range of independent schools within the county.
