Gibraltar is a British overseas territory at the Southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. We have a semi-tropical climate and are surrounded on three sides by the sea. Gibraltar offers a fantastic base for exploring Spain and North Africa and there are several direct flights each day between Gibraltar and the UK. Nearby Malaga airport offers a large number of direct European and international flights. For the more adventurous Tarifa, the Spanish Kite surfing capital, is a 45 minute drive away and the Skiing resort of Sierra Nevada is a 3 hour drive inland.

The Gibraltar Health Authority is a public health provider closely modelled on the NHS.

The job and rota are EWTD compliant comprising less than 48 hours on average per week including non-clinical sessions to help with continuing professional development.

Applicants for this post from outside of the UK who have appropriate qualifications and proof of English language proficiency may be eligible to up to two years exemption from GMC registration.

St Bernard’s Hospital is a 140 bed acute hospital serving a patient population of ~ 55,000. There are four theatres (with a fifth being built), including one in our dedicated Day Case Unit. We offer anaesthetic and post op ICU support for multiple surgical specialities including ENT, maxillo-facial/dental, general (including colorectal, bariatric, breast and upper GI), urology, orthopaedic (upper and lower limb), trauma, minor vascular, obs & gynae and ophthalmic surgery. We also have chronic pain session and visiting consultant operating sessions such as Plastic surgery giving a successful applicant a varied clinical workload.

We pride ourselves on delivering diverse training opportunities for our middle grade doctors and have supported trainees in Fellowships and GMC-approved Out of Programme Training (OOPT). You will have ample opportunity to improve your anaesthetic skills and practice regional (including upper limb blocks) and general techniques as well as receive training in Chronic Pain and Intensive care medicine (including FICE mentoring). We also strive to offer an excellent work/life balance allowing our trainees to take advantage of the lifestyle and travel opportunities available here.

The total remuneration is £71,248 per annum with income tax currently at 20-25% in Gibraltar. In addition to this there is a £500 rental allowance per month and economy class flights are paid in full.
