Consultant Paediatric Neurologist
The post holder will support the delivery of Paediatric Neurology and Neuromuscular services in Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children through provision of outpatient and inpatient services.
The postholder will:
a) Be expected to work with professional colleagues in the care of patients referred to him/her and to keep up-to-date with innovative change and development within the specialty, profession and the Health Service.
b) Be expected to work with local managers in providing a high quality efficient service to patients and to assume leadership where appropriate in a team-working environment within the management framework of the Paediatric Directorate and in line with the policy of the Trust.
c) Be expected to undertake teaching of medical undergraduates and postgraduates as well as staff in related disciplines, and to co-operate with colleagues in developing local educational programmes.
d) He/she will be encouraged to perform and develop research.
e) Support the delivery of Paediatric Neurology services.
f) Provide local neurology services based at Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.
g) Provide outpatient clinics for tertiary neurology and Neuromuscular services.
h) Provide outreach services within District General Hospitals
i) Contribute to EEG reporting.
j) Liaise with paediatricians and other professionals in developing clinical services. This will include liaison with general paediatrics, other paediatric specialties, neurosurgery, 5 neuroradiology, neuropathology, neurophysiology, PICU and adult neurology. Work with colleagues to ensure continuity of care for patients with neurological conditions.
k) Be involved in teaching, training and supervision of trainees
l) Be expected to adhere to requirements for continuing medical education and to ensure that all skills and expertise are maintained. The Hospital is committed to fully supporting and resourcing nationally agreed CME requirements to facilitate this. The post holder is expected to work within the Trust’s Clinical Governance Framework and GMC guidance on good medical practice.
m) Participate fully in medical and multi-professional clinical audit and is expected to develop research interests relevant to this post.
n) Be expected to take part in the annual appraisal programme and job plan review.
