Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Rheumatologist (Pure post).

The post-holder will be based at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital, managing rheumatology patients in the outpatient setting including seeing ward referrals. You would join an enthusiastic team of 5 Consultants and Specialist Nurse’s.  This is a 10 PA post as a pure Consultant Rheumatologist.  Alternatively if you have an interest in GIM, this can also be accommodated with negotiable PAs.

The department is now a designated specialised rheumatology centre, enabling local, rapid treatment of patients with lupus and vasculitis with NHS England approved treatments. There are regular multidisciplinary rheumatology and vasculitis MDTs. An Early Arthritis Service with musculoskeletal ultrasound is provided. The department has three ultrasound machines and provides a comprehensive service for patients with inflammatory arthritis with expertise in treatment with biologic therapy (the trust has over 1500 patients on biologics). Treatment is facilitated through the Kent and Medway Rheumatology Network, which allows all eligible patients to be treated in accordance with NICE Guidance. Patients receive biologics infusions on the Divisional Day units on each acute site.

Specialist interests include early arthritis, connective tissue & vasculitis and spondyloarthopathy. The department leads a trustwide monthly Vasculitis MDT with renal, chest physicians, radiology ENT and opthalmology. Close links with the Royal Free hospital exist with a quarterly RFH Pulmonary hypertension MDT and clinic.

A major focus for the department is ultrasound training with the development of the CASE-accredited focused ultrasound course for inflammatory arthritis in collaboration with Canterbury Christchurch University. Several members are course lecturers and the department is also involved in mentoring ST doctors and allied health professionals in ultrasound training.
