Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon – Lower Limb

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic  Surgeon with an interest in Lower Limb and Revision Arthroplasty at Wye Valley NHS Trust .

This is a new post created as part of WVNHST’s continued expansion to maintain waiting times in line with national targets.  The successful candidate will join our team of 9 Consultants having an interest in lower limb surgery, ideally to complement the existing Lower Limb Team.

WVNHST runs Hereford County Hospital, a District General Hospital & Trauma Unit serving a population of approximately 230,000 largely from Herefordshire and Powys

Initially the post is for planned for 12.5 PA’s, subject to negotiation (2.5 SPA; 10 DCC)

The successful applicant:

  • will join the existing Lower Limb Team which runs a comprehensive Lower Limb T&O service. This is based in Hereford and includes a satellite service  run at various community hospitals in Herefordshire and Powys
  • will participate in a general T&O on call rota, currently 1 in 9
  • will be able to manage common adult & paediatric general orthopaedic emergencies liaising with tertiary/major trauma centres as appropriate
  • will be expected to participate in departmental activities including audit, clinical governance, research and teaching

Hereford is a cathedral city and enjoys beautiful surrounding countryside down the Wye Valley, along the Malvern Hills and across to the Black Mountains with many opportunities for outdoor pursuits. Rail and road networks give ready access to Birmingham and Bristol with the nearby M50 linking us to the motorway network. There are ample leisure and sporting facilities within the city. The county of Herefordshire offers a wonderful quality of life with a wide range of very good schools and yet inexpensive housing.
