Consultant in Respiratory Medicine
This is a replacement post and the post holder will join an enthusiastic and dynamic team of 3.6 WTE Consultants in Respiratory Medicine at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, the post has been approved by the Royal College.
We are looking for a team player with a flexible approach to support and complement the existing Respiratory Service. Sub-speciality options are available and can be tailored to the candidate. The appointment is for a total of 10 PAs per week.
The successful candidate will be based at Peterborough City Hospital, however with the recent merger with our sister hospital Hinchingbrooke opens up the possibility for cross site working within Respiratory Medicine.
You will be expected to take an active role within the department aiming to improve the care of patients, and education of both medical and nursing staff. In the chosen sub speciality they will be expected to develop the service and have a leadership role. The department is keen to recruit staff who have skills in tuberculosis, sleep medicine, non-invasive ventilation, endobronchial ultrasound, medical thoracoscopy, pleural procedures, pulmonary physiology and asthma. You will be required to undertake general/speciality Respiratory Medicine out-patient clinics and in-patient ward work.
The post-holder will contribute to the general medical on-call rota at NWAFT, which is currently 1 in 15 frequency.
NWAFT is a large organisation spread across 5 sites with inpatient beds in 3 of the sites. This post is to be based at Peterborough City Hospital.
The respiratory service has the inpatient beds in a dedicated 32 bed ward. The department covers all aspects of respiratory medicine. We also provide shared care with the regional centres for Cystic Fibrosis, Pulmonary hypertension and Interstitial Lung disease. We also refer both to Glenfield Hospital and Royal Papworth for Cardiothoracic services.
We provide both and inpatient and outpatient service for respiratory medicine. We have clinics running most days. We have a dedicated respiratory nurse service who provide support to patients both in the hospital and in the community. We provide inpatient NIV services, home NIV is supported via Royal Papworth. We have two dedicated bronchoscopy lists weekly and a busy cancer service, with clinic and MDT. We also have a ILD service and a bronchiectasis clinic and the ability to do home antibiotics for select patients. We have an dedicated TB clinic with excellent links with the community teams.
We rotate providing ward cover, cover for referrals and all carry our own clinic workload. We have two rotating STR trainees.
Applicants must be members of the Royal College of Physicians or have equivalent experience and training and must be fully registered with a license to practice with the General Medical Council with specialist registration in General Internal Medicine & Respiratory Medicine or be within 6 months of CCT for these specialties. Specialists in General Internal Medicine & Respiratory Medicine, recognised by EEC are eligible to apply.
