Based at our Tyrwhitt House Treatment Centre in Leatherhead, Surrey, KT22 0B

Combat Stress was established in 1919. We are the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health. For almost a century, we’ve helped former servicemen and women deal with trauma-related mental health conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression.

Today we provide a range of free services including short-stay clinical treatment, a specialist PTSD Intensive Treatment Programme, Occupational Therapy, Community support and a free 24-hour Helpline. We’re on a mission to raise awareness that invisible injuries can be just as hard to cope with as physical ones. So, when a veteran is having a tough time, we’re there to help tackle the past and to take on the future.

You will be joining a cadre of Consultant Psychiatrists working across the UK. Experience in Psychological Trauma and Military Psychiatry is desirable but not essential for the successful post holder.

You will be a Consultant Psychiatrist or at least eligible for appointment to a Consultant role on the UK Specialist Register in Psychiatry. Your revalidation and appraisal track record will be up to date. You will be dynamic with proven leadership skills, expertise and vision to contribute significantly to the development of our evolving service. This is an excellent opportunity for a Psychiatrist who is keen to make a difference to veterans’ mental health. The Charity will value your experience, clinical leadership and the contribution you will make to the continuing evolution of the provision of mental health treatments at Combat Stress.

Combat Stress is a Designated Body ensuring annual appraisal and revalidation; it also offers opportunities for CPD and learning. Membership of a Peer Development Group is supported. Combat Stress has a research department linked to Kings College Military Health Research Centre and research and clinical audit is supported and encouraged.

This is a part-time post based primarily at Tyrwhitt House although, to enable the Charity to deliver clinics regionally, some community clinics in the Southern Region will also be required by negotiation.
