Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Community
Paediatrician, following the retirement of a senior colleague. We are
seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Consultant to join the
established team here in Poole, working in a combined Trust with Acute
and Neonatal paediatricians. There is flexibility in the post offered,
depending on the interests of the appointee; assessment of pre-school
and school-age children with neurodisability, responsibility for children at
a local Special School, and participation in the Safeguarding on-call rota
(1:6) will be required, with other aspects of Community Paediatrics being
available too, including Looked After Children, if desired. There will be a
planned contract of 10 programmed activities, but applications will be
welcomed from those seeking to work less than full-time.

There are currently ten Consultants and one Associate Specialist in
Acute Paediatrics, four Consultants and one Associate Specialist in
Neonatology and six Consultants in Community Child Health, as well
as Speciality Doctors who work closely with the consultants to ensure
a co-ordinated Child Health Service within the area. Undergraduate
teaching of medical students from Southampton takes place in the
Children’s Unit.

This is an exciting time for our staff, following a recent review of
healthcare services in Dorset which will see major changes to the
way healthcare is provided. As one of the two acute NHS providers
in the east of the county, our services will be closely linked to those
provided at the Royal Bournemouth & Christchurch Hospital NHS
Foundation Trust. We’re working in close collaboration to deliver
excellent emergency and planned care over the two sites, for the
people of east Dorset.

Poole Hospital is one of seven acute NHS Trust hospitals within Dorset
and Somerset. The Royal Bournemouth Hospital is 7 miles to the east
within the same Christchurch/Bournemouth/Poole conurbation and the
two hospitals already have strong links, serving a population of
approximately 500,000, a child population of approximately 103,100
and with a large influx of visitors in the summer months. The post
offers the opportunity to live and work in a lovely part of the country.
Poole has a busy port with a considerable amount of light industry in
the surrounding region. There are excellent rail links to London and
local bus and cycle routes are well established. Bournemouth Airport,
at Hurn, has many expanding routes to Europe and there are daily
ferry links to Cherbourg and the Channel Islands.

Enquires are welcome, please contact Dr Sarah Morris on 01202 442382 or Dr Steve Wadams, Clinical Director, on 01202 442177.

Please apply through the NHS Jobs Reference
428-A-18-11453. Closing date is 9th February
