Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologists
The Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital is one of the largest providers of women and infant health care in the Republic of Ireland. We care for up to 10,000 pregnant women every year. In addition, over 1,000 infants are admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Centre and over 8,000 adult surgical operations are performed. The hospital provides comprehensive care for women and infants at local, regional and national levels.
The hospital promotes and supports normality in pregnancy and child birth; the hospital also provides a comprehensive range of highly specialised care in high risk maternal and fetal medicine, newborn medicine, anaesthesia and gynaecology.
Over 700 medical, midwifery, nursing, research scientists and professions allied to medicine are committed every day to delivering the best possible medical care in response to the needs of women and infants.
The Hospital has a substantial academic portfolio in terms of multidisciplinary education, research and training. The Hospital hosts two University Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the National Cervical Cytology Training Centre and the Hub Centre for continuing Midwifery education in the Greater Dublin area. The Research Laboratory in the Hospital campus is a leading European Centre for molecular biology research.
Permanent Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologists 1 WTE (2 Posts)
Applications are invited for the above post which is on a Type B Basis under the Consultants’ Contract 2008. The Consultant appointed will work for 39 hours per week at the Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital.
Professional Qualifications and Experience Required
Applicants must be registered as a Specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland in the speciality of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Applicants will be expected to provide clinical leadership in obstetrics and gynaecology and play a key role in the further development of women's health services, including the planned expansion of surgical gynaecological services.
For the purposes of eligibility for entry to any competition or recruitment process associated with this post, a candidate cannot be appointed as a Medical Consultant unless (s)he is registered as a Specialist in the Specialist Division on the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland before taking up appointment. The successful candidate will be allowed a maximum of 180 calendar days from date of interview to secure registration and produce evidence of special interest training where relevant.
