Medical Research Fellow

Part-time: 8 PAs: 6 research and 2 clinical

Fixed term for 2 years.

Applications are invited for this exciting new opportunity to join the research team at St Columba’s Hospice, where you will help develop the palliative care evidence base by helping to lead 2 research studies in the area of palliative care rehabilitation and nutrition.

The Hospice has made research a core strand of its 5 year strategy “Care and Compassion Matters” and the successful candidate will work alongside a small team with significant palliative care research experience. The post also includes a day a week of clinical work in outpatient and inpatient settings. It is expected that the postholder will attain a higher degree (MD) and that the research will lead to a variety of peer-reviewed publications.

As a Hospice we’re committed to delivering the highest standards of care to people with active, progressive, far advanced illness. St. Columba’s Hospice, a modern Specialist Palliative Care Unit, provides inpatient facilities for 30 patients, and has a growing community service, including Specialist Community Palliative Care, Day Services and outpatients, as well as the Centre for Education and Research.

Experience in Palliative Medicine is highly desirable but not essential, and applicants must have full registration with the General Medical Council, with a current licence to practise.

Interested candidates are encouraged to visit the Hospice. Potential applicants wishing to arrange either an informal discussion or visit, please contact Dr Barry Laird, Consultant in Palliative Medicine by email: barry.laird@ed.ac.uk
