We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant Dermatologist to join our Dermatology Team in our large teaching trust.

The new post holder will join a department of 7 Consultant Dermatologists, an Associate Specialist in Plastic Surgery, and a dedicated nursing and administration team based at the Birmingham Skin Centre at City Hospital. The successful candidate will join a well-established department with an outpatient area, skin theatre and minor procedures area, day treatment unit, phototherapy suite, Cutaneous allergy Unit and a regional Laser unit. Specialist services available in the department include laser therapy, tertiary cutaneous allergy, dermatological surgery, skin cancer, vulval dermatoses, paediatric dermatology and a biologics service.

The Trust has a very good reputation for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching with strong links to the University of Birmingham and Health Education West Midlands with the Dermatology department having both junior doctors in training, and also medical students. The department is involved in a variety of research activities with ample opportunities to contribute to these, or initiate relevant dermatology research projects.

The Trust is a key partner with the local commissioning group and the local authorities in the Right Care Right Here programme, which seeks to deliver a redevelopment of local health services. The programme includes one of the largest investments in the UK with new facilities in both the acute and community sectors. Included within this is the new Midland Metropolitan Hospital.

The new appointee is expected to have a broad-based dermatology background. The job has been structured to provide surgical sessions and general dermatology clinics. It is expected that the post holder will have or develop a subspecialty interest to complement the department and it is anticipated that the successful applicant will also have a well developed interest in teaching, training and research. The successful applicant would be expected to participate in the cross site out of hours on-call rota for dermatology.

Applicants must be included on the GMC’s Specialist Register in Dermatology, or within 6 months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT, at the time of interview.

Visits to the Trust and informal enquiries are welcomed. Please contact Dr Donna Thompson, Consultant Dermatologist and clinical lead for dermatology on 0121 507 4708
