It is essential for the candidate to be dedicated to providing a first class service where the patient and their relatives come first.
Applications are invited for a Medical oncologist (10 PAs) in the Oncology Department at The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GWH) in Swindon. The Department serves a population of 350,000 and is part of the Thames Valley Cancer Network. There are 3 medical oncologists based at GWH and 5 clinical oncology consultants visit from Oxford. There are 5 Haematology consultants at GWH and the departments have shared outpatient and day ward facilities and a wide range of outpatient oncology chemotherapy is undertaken on site. The departments are well supported by clinical nurse specialists and there are both local and network wide (video-conferenced) multidisciplinary team meetings. The Haematology department provides BCSH level 3 care (leukaemia induction chemotherapy, and autologous stem cell transplantation). The Trust is planning to develop radiotherapy as a satellite of the Oxford Centre in 2020. There is an active cancer clinical trials team and the departments participate in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Candidates are required to be within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview or currently hold CCT or equivalent. As such the post holder should be trained in all aspects of General Medicine, special interests are encouraged and will be supported as much as possible.
Full GMC registration is essential. A work permit may be applied for if the successful candidate is non-UK/EU resident. An enhanced CRB disclosure will be requested in the event of a successful application. A disclosed conviction will not automatically bar an individual from obtaining a position within the trust. The starting salary will reflect the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
