Surgical Research Fellow
Raigmore Hospital, Inverness
Applications are invited from surgeons in training who wish to undertake a period of full time research or deliver education, leading towards a post-graduate degree.
Options include registering for an MSc in Health Science (University of Aberdeen), the distance learning ChM in General Surgery (University of Edinburgh) or an MSc in Medical Visualisation with Glasgow School of Art. Registering for a Masters in Medical Education is an option. The MSc in Health Science is an internationally recognised degree consisting of taught and thesis components. The ChM is an option for advanced trainees in general surgery.
We are particularly interested in Fellows who would help deliver the ScotCap Programme. This project, funded by the Scottish Government, will run a 500 patient observational cohort on the clinical effectiveness of colon capsule endoscopy, as a community delivered diagnostic in Scotland. You would work closely with the Health Services Research Unit at Aberdeen University and other stakeholders. This is a novel, mature and exciting project that would lead towards a Doctorate thesis.
If successful you will take part in the middle grade surgical rota covering weekday nights and weekends. The unit has a 100% completion rate for post-graduate degrees and consists of 21 consultant surgeons, in the specialties of breast, colorectal, upper GI/HPB, vascular and urology.
