Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust (BWC) is seeking to recruit a Consultant Psychiatrist who is committed to working with young people and young adults in a Paediatric Liaison setting and to contribute to medical leadership within an established multidisciplinary team (Health in Mind service) based in a busy children’s hospital (Birmingham Children’s Hospital) that provides both secondary and tertiary care services.
The Consultant will provide a central role delivering psychiatric assessment and treatment for both inpatients and outpatients at Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH).
BCH is a leading specialist paediatric centre with a national liver and small bowel transplant centre, global centre of excellence for complex cardiac conditions, burns, oncology, hepatology and nephrology.
It is a nationally designated centre for epilepsy surgery and is a paediatric major trauma centre for the West Midlands. It has the largest single Paediatric Intensive Care Unit in the UK with 31 beds.
The Consultant will be based in the Health in Mind service which is a multidisciplinary team of Clinical and Health Psychologists, Learning Disability Liaison Nurses, Assistant and Trainee Psychologists.
In addition to this, the consultant will also have a strong peer group network with other consultant psychiatrists based in Forward Thinking Birmingham and Tier 4 CAMHS services that currently sit under the BWC portfolio as the lead provider.
The team works with various services within BCH to promote good mental health and well-being, in the context of physical health conditions.
In addition, the team has dedicated learning disability liaison nurses to support children and young people with learning disabilities, as well as paediatric neuropsychologists who provide specialist neuropsychology assessments and contribute to relevant decision making and the evaluation of treatments. The Consultant will join the Health in Mind senior management team and contribute to the development of the service.
As well as joining our medical team, opportunities are also available to take up additional service development, research and under/post-graduate teaching duties. Our range of specialist services with links to the Institute of Mental Health at University of Birmingham, and our commitment to professional development, will provide you with plenty of opportunities to diversify your skills and be part of a vibrant peer group in this unique and exciting service. Generous relocation packages are available.
