Clinical Lead and Consultant Psychiatrist - PICU

Ready for a new leadership challenge using your clinical leadership skills to transform lives?  Due to our existing Clinical Lead being promoted to Clinical Director we are now looking for a replacement Clinical Lead who has the clinical psychiatry skills alongside the commercial business and leadership skills to drive the IPU forward.

A top 20 UK charity, St Andrew’s is a unique provider of specialist care in mental health and learning disability. We aspire to deliver truly world class, holistic services within our outstanding, modern facilities. Our independence means we can always put patients’ interests at the heart of decision making, while re-investing surpluses in frontline services.  We are currently transforming the Charity and have introduced 15 Integrated Practice Units (IPUs) as the vehicle to deliver ‘Value Based Healthcare’.  This will focus on getting the best possible outcomes for patients, at the right balance of cost and resources.  It will also ensure local teams are in control of clinical and operational strategy.

This is a role specifically designed to be the overall clinical lead for our PICU IPU. The IPU provides acute psychiatric services to male and female working age adults. The IPU aims to rapidly stabilise acutely mentally unwell patients to allow them to return to open services in their home area in the shortest possible time.

The IPU has a track record for innovation and using outcome measures to provide the highest quality of care.

The role

In addition to carrying a (reduced) clinical caseload your key focus will be managing key external stakeholder relationships, setting the IPU vision and strategy and driving cultural change in our shift towards Value Based Healthcare. You will have both clinical and operational responsibilities and be supported by an Operational Lead.

You will also use your clinical expertise to develop the clinical model for your IPU, identify clinical best practice, ensure knowledge is shared within and across IPUs, and use outcome drivers to inform and design interventions to improve patient outcomes through innovative approaches.  You will do this alongside a clinical case load within your IPU.

In order to achieve the best clinical outcomes for your patients, you will need to identify drivers of improved outcomes and set performance measures and key performance indicators (KPIs) for your IPU.  You will need to make decisions on performance data and drive forward clinical innovation within your IPU.  You will also report to the Operations Leadership Team on the performance of your IPU.

You will pursue revenue generation opportunities, with overall accountability for the IPU’s budget and financial performance.

About you

We’re looking for an experienced psychiatrist with significant experience in leading and inspiring clinical teams and setting strategy, who will relish the opportunity this role brings to develop as a senior clinician. You will have a strong network in the commissioning world, a track record of clinical innovation and the communication and influencing skills to operate at a senior level.

You will have the moral courage to challenge the status quo and drive improvement in patient care. You will have a strong track record of innovation, and the communication and influencing skills to engage with senior stakeholders.
