Consultant in Respiratory and General Medicine
Northern Care Alliance NHS Group
Department and Job Role
A great opportunity has arisen for an experienced and proactive Consultant in Respiratory Medicine to join our busy and dynamic team.
The Trust provides multi-disciplinary in-patient and community respiratory services in Rochdale, Oldham and North Manchester offering early supported discharge and admissions avoidance. We work in partnership with other providers to deliver these services elsewhere within the Pennine Sector with a long term vision to integrate respiratory care across community and acute settings. Liaison and engagement with GPs and community partners is a key role of all respiratory consultants.
We are in particular looking for individuals with a subspecialty interest in lung cancer, sleep medicine or severe asthma to enhance our current services.
The post holder will be involved in appropriate specialist clinics and will be actively involved in audit, teaching and research. We have opportunities for development in education, management, service development, governance as well as research.
You must have full registration with the General Medical Council and a valid licence to practice. All applicants must be on the specialist register in respiratory medicine and general medicine or within 6 months of achieving a CCT (or equivalent) at the date of interview.
The Respiratory Service at Pennine provides services to a catchment population of 820,000 in the North-East sector of Greater Manchester. As well as dedicated inpatient facilities the service also provides chest clinics supported by specialist nurses and allied health professionals.
The service also runs world class specialist services including lung cancer, asthma, interstitial lung, occupational lung, pleural and sleep clinics. Bronchoscopies, EBUS and thoracoscopy are among the planned investigations that are undertaken as well as a specific bronchial challenge suite.
There are currently twelve Consultant Respiratory Physicians and a further seven Physicians with a respiratory interest within the Trust who have completed specialist training in respiratory medicine to provide a vibrant and developing multi-site service
Our new Northern Care Alliance NHS Group unites five local hospitals to deliver high quality care across the North East of Greater Manchester.
The Alliance provides the benefits of scale but delivers this locally through multiple hospital sites which make up four new Care Organisations – Bury/Rochdale, North Manchester, Oldham and Salford. Using our mantra of ‘Saving lives, Improving lives’, the aim is for our Care Organisations to work closely with the communities they serve to deliver safe, high quality and reliable care, which are trusted, connected and pioneering.
Our Care Organisations are designed to operate within our group arrangement of hospitals, community and healthcare services which bring together over 17,000 staff and the services of The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. Our size and geographical reach means we are creating an environment each individual will be inspired and empowered by to be the best they can be. This is a really exciting time to join our new team.
The Trust’s management structure aligns the divisional and directorate structure into four Care Organisations (Bury & Rochdale; Oldham, North Manchester and Salford).
Each Care Organisation consists of a Medical Director, a Nursing Director, a Managing Director, Finance Manager and an Associate Director of Workforce. The Divisional Management Team consists of a Divisional Managing Director, Divisional Medical Director and a Divisional Director of Nursing. Directorate Teams within each Division are also established within each care organisation.
