As one of the largest and highest performing ambulance services in the UK, the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust is a dynamic organisation, continually looking to improve and innovate with the aim of providing the best possible care to patients in the broad and diverse communities we serve.

We are proud of the quality of our patient care, our Clinical Leadership structure, our clinical innovation schemes, partnership working and our strong financial base. We’ve also been going through exciting change and the pace continues. With a new Chief Executive about to join us we have recently implemented the new Ambulance Response Programme and are also developing and changing our service delivery model in response to increasing demand, public expectation and changes to the wider healthcare system.

The role of Medical Director is pivotal to the strategic direction of the Trust. The role assumes primary responsibility for the provision of expert strategic clinical advice to the Board of Directors on all professional medical issues in relation to the urgent and emergency care agenda. As Medical Director you will be critical in developing practice and working with partners across the health system to deliver clinical change and effective collaboration.

Our workforce are some of the very best – we need to lead them effectively and help them to continue to deliver safe, high quality care. This is a significant opportunity to play a key leadership role in a large, complex, vibrant and exciting organisation. We need someone to continue the development of the paramedic workforce, support improved patient safety through our Right Care strategy and lead on innovations to support the integrated urgent care agenda, helping to build and motivate a multi-disciplinary workforce.

Joining us at a time of significant change you’ll be instrumental not only in driving forward our clinical strategy, patient safety and research and development across the Trust, but will also make a major contribution improving patient care across the North West and throughout the ambulance sector in this outward facing role.
