We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant Haematologist with expertise in haemato-oncology to support and expand the high quality services our Trust already offers. The current departments provide comprehensive haemato-oncology service (level 2b) and have full CPA accreditation and the trust also serves as the Regional Specialist Sickle cell and Thalassaemia centre. The successful applicant will have wide training and experience in haematology, with an expertise in Haemato-oncology and would have the opportunity to develop in a preferred specialist area. The 6 Consultants will work with excellent multidisciplinary teams of staff working in the department including Haematology Specialist Registrars from the West Midlands Rotation, a Specialty Doctor, CMTs, 5Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Psychologist and strong laboratory teams.

The Trust is a large teaching Trust with a reputation for excellent, friendly staff who provide high quality care from City Hospital in Birmingham and Sandwell General in West Bromwich. Both are busy acute hospitals providing many specialist services and a broad range of emergency services, including Accident & Emergency at both sites. The Trust serves a population of over 500,000.

The Trust is a key partner along with the local Clinical Commissioning Group, PCTs and local authorities in the “Right Care Right Here” programme which seeks to deliver an ambitious redevelopment of local health services. Following a very successful public consultation, implementation of the programme is underway with a wide range of secondary care services now being provided via new models of care in community locations. As part of this programme we will open our Midland Metropolitan Hospital, putting us firmly on the map as one of the nation’s leading provider of integrated care. It will bring all of our acute services onto one site, promoting better patient safety and patient experience. Teams are supporting cross site working over the two existing acute sites as we prepare teams for our future models of care. This also provides excellent training and team development opportunities. The Trust has a very good reputation for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching with strong links to the University of Birmingham and Health Education West Midlands. Many of the department are actively involved in clinical trials and a research interest would be strongly supported fora suitably qualified applicant. There is a state of the art new medical education centre and full library facilities.

The area boasts affordable housing with popular residential districts such as Harborne and Sutton Coldfield an easy commute to the Trust sites. There are a number of very good schools and colleges locally (including a number of independent and grammar schools such as the King Edwards Schools). Birmingham is a very green city with more than 8,000 acres of green space including impressive parks around the city. Due to our central location and good motorway connections we are in easy reach of a number of beautiful rural locations including the Peak District, Cannock Chase, the Lickey Hills and the Cotswolds. The Trust offers a competitive relocation package.

Applicants must either be on the GMC’s Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining their CCT at the time of interview.

Any candidate who, for personal reasons, is unable to work whole-time is eligible to be considered for the post.
