Consultant in Cardiology (Acute Cardiology) – Substantive Post.
Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals is the regional teaching hospital, providing general acute services to Brighton and Hove and Mid Sussex and tertiary services for patients across Sussex and the south east of England. Working as one hospital across two sites in Brighton and Haywards Heath, we treat over half a million patients a year.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Cardiac team as Consultant Cardiologist, with an interest in Acute Cardiology, complementing the existing 12 full time and 1 part time consultant cardiologists, 5 cardio-thoracic surgeons and 6 cardiac anaesthetists.
The Sussex Cardiac Centre (SCC) provides a full adult cardiac service to the local population and a tertiary service to the wider Sussex population of 1.5 million. The SCC provides all aspects of tertiary cardiac care including percutaneous intervention (with PPCI 24/7), non-coronary structural intervention, complex electrophysiology/devices, and cardiac surgery.
This new role is an exciting opportunity to develop the infrastructure aligned with streamlined, high quality acute cardiac care. In this unique post you will develop the interface between acute medical services in the trust and specialist cardiac care, as well as our partners in primary care and the CCG. They will provide senior cardiac support to the acute floor as well as providing rapid assessment clinics and delivering ambulatory care.
Additionally, as part of the Cardiac Team you will have overall responsibility for the Chest Pain Unit and provide specialist imaging sessions (Cardiac CT, MRI and TOE).
