Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary
NHS Dumfries and Galloway is seeking applications from passionate professionals who want to join a dedicated team of Acute Medicine Consultants. Based at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI), the Board’s £270 million state of the art District General Hospital, the successful candidate will share clinical duties on the Combined Assessment Unit (CAU) with three committed colleagues with a special interest in acute medical care.
In addition to sessions on the CAU, the successful applicant will be supported to maintain an existing specialty interest or Acute Medicine Special Skill, subject to negotiation and local service needs. They will also provide a dedicated senior presence during working hours and contribute to the General Medicine on call rota out of hours (one in 12).
The post holder will work closely with a highly skilled nursing team, a dedicated pool of Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and junior medical staff in a unit which enjoys an excellent relationship with the Emergency Department. They will have the opportunity to develop innovative clinical services and play a key role in the configuration of new services.
The appointment is on a whole-time basis under the terms of the new consultant contract. The job plan, which is subject to review, comprises of 10 sessions, which will be split accordingly in discussion with the successful applicant. Additional SPAs may be incorporated into the job plan, depending on the time required to support the successful candidate’s professional activities and the needs of the service.
Applicants should already be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their CCT in Acute Medicine, General Internal Medicine, or equivalent and should hold full GMC registration.
