This is a replacement post, due to vacancy within the Microbiology Department. The appointee will be part of a team of three Consultants. The department provides an extensive repertoire of diagnostic tests in bacteriology, virology and Mycology, using newly introduced techniques and machines (example: Filmarray multiplex PCR platform, MALDI-TOF). Molecular diagnostic testing is employed in many diagnostic areas.

We are patient focused with the primary objective of providing accurate and rapid results to assist clinical colleagues to make timely decisions. You will be expected along with the other consultant provide a comprehensive microbiology and infection treatment and management service, and provide cover and advice on Infection prevention and control issues.

The Hospital has always been renowned for its friendly atmosphere and good working relationships. The Trust has University Hospital status with University Hospitals of Leicester.

The hospital was founded in 1897 and became a separate NHS Trust in 1994. The hospital covers North Northamptonshire. The trust (including Kettering General) has approximately 550 beds, 17 theatres and employs more than 3,200 staff.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic individuals with FRCPath (or equivalent) who would be willing to work in a clinically orientated department. Applications are welcome from those unable to work full-time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

Applicants are required to have FRCPath or equivalent, full GMC registration, and inclusion on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council. Specialist Registrars may apply if within six months of obtaining CCT at the date of interview.
