Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust wishes to invite applications for the post of Consultant urological surgeon. Applicants must be on the Specialist Register with full GMC Registration and a licence to practice and hold CCST or be within 6 months of completing training.

The successful applicant will join a team of 5 consultants, 5 middle grades, 1 FY2 and 3 FY1s and will be responsible for morning ward rounds, attending OPD, theatre and diagnostic sessions and will take part in the on-call arrangements. The unit offers specialist treatment in stones, lap Nephrectomy, Andrology, as well as general Urology including TURP, TURBT and diagnostics including Urodynamics, TRUS, Trans-Perineal Biopsy, Intravesical Botox and Flexible Cystoscopy.

The department benefits from a new Treatment Centre facility and is undergoing a feasibility study to develop a new Urology build, accommodating outpatient, outpatient procedures and diagnostics, including one stop haematuria and prostate cancer clinics. The department has access to Green Light Laser, Holmium laser and Flexible Ureteroscopes for management of stones and works with Northampton and Leicester as part of the local Cancer Network. Radical pelvic surgery for bladder and prostate cancer is mainly performed in Leicester.

The successful applicant will have the ability to perform reconstructive procedures, ideally with training at Fellowship level. A higher degree with a record of publication would be highly desirable. They will have the drive to further develop the service in Kettering General Hospital and will show great flexibility and enthusiasm to improve the service through audit and by involvement in reorganising the department as the new unit evolves.

Kettering General Hospital has achieved Affiliated Teaching Hospital status with Leicester Medical School and an interest in education would be an advantage.

Kettering General hospital is a 600 bed DGH in North Northamptonshire. It provides elective and emergency care to a population of approx. 360,000 covering all major specialities. It is located off the A14 with excellent road and rail links and easy access to airports. The area is largely rural, providing a housing market which remains very competitively priced and offers  a number of  market towns and many charming villages, There is excellent educational provision in the area, both state and public and sports, leisure and recreational facilities to meet the needs of the whole family.
