Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist
Applications are invited for a new Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist to join the existing team of four Paediatric Cardiologists based at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. Consideration will be given to candidates with any sub-specialty interest although our aim is to strengthen the Fetal Cardiology Service and applicants with training and experience in this field would be preferred.
The Lead role in Fetal Cardiology will be available for candidates with a recognised level of experience.
University Hospital of Wales houses the regional Children’s Heart Unit for Wales and provides comprehensive cardiological services for foetuses, children and adults with congenital heart disease in South and West Wales – a population of approximately 2.5 million.
In addition to paediatric cardiology beds, a full medical diagnostic service is provided with imaging facilities including echocardiography, magnetic resonance, CT scanning, and isotope scanning. There is a commitment to the 1 in 5 paediatric cardiology on-call rota. Therapeutic intervention is carried out in close collaboration with the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. The Children’s Heart Unit provides an extensive outreach clinic service and the successful applicant will contribute to this.
Academic interests such as research and teaching will be encouraged. There are close links with Cardiff University’s School of Medicine and the Wales Deanery (now part of Health Education and Improvement Wales).
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
